bell rings or an announcement regarding a code is made, please follow the instructions given to you by school personnel. Drills of this nature are practiced with the children and staff in order to ensure their safety and well-being. DISCIPLINE Each staff member at Charles H. Chipman Elementary School accepts responsibility for the maintenance of discipline and for the promotion of a program for the development of wholesome human relations. A student’s behavior should conform to acceptable standards of conduct as established by the Wicomico County Board of Education, administration, and teachers. PBIS (POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SUPPORT) Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to creating safer, more effective schools. It is a research-based framework that helps schools support the academic and behavioral success of all students by establishing consistent school-wide and classroom expectations. PBIS focuses on building a positive school climate by teaching and reinforcing appropriate behaviors. Through this system, schools can create, implement, and monitor effective discipline strategies at the school-wide, classroom, non-classroom, and individual student levels. These expectations are clearly posted and practiced throughout all areas of the school, ensuring consistency for students and staff. At Chipman Elementary, students can earn “Chipman Bucks” daily for making good choices and following the Chipman Best expectations. These bucks can be used to participate in fun celebrations and incentives. Students who receive a bus referral, office referral, or are sent to the office for behavioral concerns will not be eligible to attend that month’s celebration. We encourage families to stay connected. Talking Points is a great way to reach out to your child’s teacher or an administrator if you have questions or concerns about behavior. Page | 7
