Terms and Conditions Following Notice of Resignation Statement The Wicomico County Board of Education does not financially compensate employees for unused paid personal and/or sick leave upon separation from employment. All annual leave should be used prior to the effective date of any termination of employment. Your supervisor must approve all leave requested. If you are unable to use it prior to your resignation date, it will be paid (up to 25 days) the following pay period after your last pay date. Upon your separation, you are to turn in all applicable Board items such as laptops, iPads, any technology-related items, keys, photo ID badge, fob, etc. to your immediate supervisor and/or principal prior to receiving your final check. Retirement Procedures Statement Notice of Retirement must be in writing and provided to the Director of Human Resources a minimum of thirty (30) days prior to the anticipated retirement date. At that time, a copy of the retirement notification should also be provided to the Principal and Supervisor, as applicable. Upon receipt of the retirement notice, the retirement application process will be initiated (no retirement paperwork is completed/submitted before written notice is given). Eligibility to retire does not guarantee any level of pension benefits. Each employee should carefully consider their pension benefits before providing a retirement notice. Returning WCBOE/WCPS Property upon Separation Statement Upon separation, employees must return WCBOE/WCPS equipment, such as keys, fob, and identification cards and any other property entrusted to the employee. Termination Statement Any employee terminated for cause such as poor performance, willful neglect, insubordination, misconduct, or other causes, will forfeit any payable benefits, including annual leave. When applicable, comp time will be paid during the pay period following your last pay date. Such employees will not be eligible for rehire. Exit Interview Statement An exit interview survey link is sent to all employees who resign or retire.
