WCPS Employee Handbook 2024-2025

EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE & EVALUATION Procedures and Time Frame for Conducting Classified Employee Evaluations The Wicomico County Board of Education (WCBOE) supports the full and equitable annual evaluation of all classified employees on common performance measures which fully describe and assess levels of performance. All classified employees will be evaluated annually based on their job performance. The evaluation will be conducted using the Performance Appraisal Tool, which rates the employee using common performance indicators. New Hires and/or Promotions are automatically placed on a 90-day probationary evaluation in addition to the annual end of year evaluation. The end of year evaluation will be conducted between April 1st and June 30th of each year. If there is a deficiency in an employee’s performance a conference will be held before the end of year evaluation. Supervisors will provide written feedback and suggestions for improvement if there is a deficiency in an employee’s performance. Additional reviews may be performed at the discretion of the supervisor. Classified Employee Probation An employee at any level who receives unacceptable ratings in three (3) or more of the indicators or receives an unacceptable rating within the same performance indicator two years in in a row on their end-of-year evaluation or achieves less than 30 points on the BOE Performance Scale, will be placed on a probationary status. The probationary status will last for a period of 90 days during which time they will be required to improve their performance through a written and signed performance improvement plan (PIP). If sufficient improvement is not met, a recommendation for termination may be made. The employee may be placed on probation with: 1. Less than three (3) unacceptable indicators if: 2. An unacceptable rating within the same performance indicator is repeated two years in a row or, 3. the employee’s performance has a significant negative effect on the operation of the school system. Any classified employee placed on probation as a result of unacceptable ratings on their end of year evaluation, will have their salary frozen until the probationary period is completed and have received a satisfactory evaluation. All meetings in regard to performance and probation will be documented by the immediate supervisor. Evaluation and Probationary Procedures for Non-Classified Employees For procedures regarding evaluation and probationary procedures for non-classified employees, please refer to your negotiated agreement.
