64 • The virtual model of student athlete engagement provides a framework to assist students in preparing for a sports season in the second semester of the school year. • This model promotes the overall wellness and mental engagement of the student athlete. • This model will help educate student athletes in creating and achieving personal fitness goals, nutritional, and sports specific goals. • This model helps to create opportunities for ALL STUDENTS through access and equity. Students could utilize their WCBOE issued device to take part in their practice sessions. • All students must have on file with their school’s athletic trainer an athletic physical and a pre -participation packet (Form-Relief) before engaging in any practice, including virtual practice sessions. • Activities may be modified, delayed or cancelled based on what is in the best interest of our student-athletes, coaches and other athletic stakeholders. Virtual Coaching Expectations: • To provide some sense of normalcy for students, coaches, and families • Cultivate a positive school culture through the reengagement in athletics • Reconnect and reengage student athletes Practice Seasons • Fall Sports o Monday, September 28, 2020 to Friday, October 30, 2020 (25 days) • Spring Sports o Tuesday, November 4, 2020 to Friday, December 11, 2020 (25 days) • Winter Sports o Monday, December 14, 2020 to Friday, January 29, 2021 (24 days) A Sample of Virtual Coaching Activities: • Weekly Introduction/Sport Specific Workout • Social Emotional Activity • Sport Specific Workout • Current Topics – Nutrition/College Recruiting/ Academic Plans • Weekly Recap First Semester Voluntary Conditioning and Skill-Based Coaching Sessions • Participation is voluntary for both students and coaches • Activities are open to students in grades 9-12 • There will be no tryouts – tryouts would only occur in the second semester if a competitive season occurs • A student’s participation in the first semester activities will not have any bearing on second semester team selection • Virtual practice sessions will be limited to 90 minutes and will be held between the hours of 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM • There will be no limit to the number of student athletes who can engage in a virtual coaching session • Coaches are expected to hold practices a minimum of 3 days each week Coaching Contracts Coaches will receive 40% of their coaching stipend for participation in these first semester practice activities.
