24 • Staff check-ins with students and families • “Lunch Bunches” for students with social worker, school counselor, or student advisor • Morning circles with students around mindfulness and other social and emotional topics • Online or in-person panel discussions provided by school mental health staff for families • Social workers and school counselors available for staff before the school day starts and at the end of the day • Opportunities for one-to-one/face-to-face counseling for students • Partnerships with community-based agencies and faith-based partners to assist with addressing the social and emotional needs of students • Information and resources shared on the Wicomico County Public Schools Mental Health Awareness Facebook page • Mental Health Care Kits (stress balls, sensory materials, pipe cleaners, etc.) to be utilized by students in conjunction with tele-health services or inperson services • Utilizing different modalities to assist students express how they are feeling (ex. art journals, music therapy, brain breaks/dance, weekly music therapy sessions for Prekindergarten students) • Listing of Behavioral Health Resources included in Return Plan (Appendix C). SCHOOL HEALTH SUITES • The WCPS Health Services Supervisor is collaborating with Wicomico County Health Department to implement practices in response to COVID19, following CDC, MDH and MSDE guidelines. Prior to the first day of school all school nurses receive necessary training on health and safety protocols related to COVID-19. • School nurses work on site in school buildings to respond to questions and address health concerns. • Space will be provided that allows separation/isolation of ill students from well ones and provides the appropriate level of safety and supervision for an ill student. • Health room staff will clean/disinfect frequently touched surfaces throughout the day as needed. • Health room staff will clean/disinfect the seating and other surfaces used by ill students as needed. • Custodial staff will clean/disinfect the health room, including isolation area, and restrooms, in the evening. • To help reduce respiratory droplets on surfaces, students will be provided a face mask to wear if they have COVID-19 symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 while waiting to be dismissed. • Every health room will have an ionizing tower fan to improve ventilation. PROTOCOL FOR POSITIVE COVID-19 CASES DURING • Students with symptoms of an infectious respiratory illness will be taken to the school nurse for evaluation and provided with a mask. • School nurses will utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) when appropriate.
