BOX 1538 2424 NORTHGATE DRIVE., SUITE 3, SALISBURY, MD 21802-1538 INS-SCH-PR-007 Expectations of the class, which include grading practices approved by the school 143 principal, will be reviewed by the teacher and be made clear at the beginning of the 144 academic school year to students during class and to the parents/guardians during the 145 scheduled classroom visitation opportunity held in the beginning of the school year. 146 During the first week of class, each classroom teacher will provide, review and send 147 home with each student a written document that explains his/her grading practices and 148 requirements for make-up work due to absence. 149 2. Mid-term Progress Reports 150 Midterm progress reports will be published to Parent Portal for parents/guardians at the 151 midpoint of each marking period. After publication of the midterm progress reports, 152 parents/guardians will be notified if a student is dropping more than two letter grades, 153 drops to a D, or is in danger of failing. 154 3. Report Cards 155 Report Cards will be published to Parent Portal for parents/guardians in grades 1 through 156 5 following the close of the marking periods 1, 2, 3, and 4. The final report card will 157 reflect both the grades earned during the final marking period and the overall final grade 158 for the school year. 159 4. Make-Up Work 160 a. Any student absent for reasons coded as lawful or unlawful will have the privilege of 161 making up work for credit. 162 b. The make-up procedure for short-term (five days or less) absence will require the 163 following: 164 i. The student/parent/guardian must request the missed assignments. 165 ii. Teachers are responsible for providing make-up work upon request for students 166 who are lawfully or unlawfully absent. 167 iii. Students will be given the number of days equal to the number of days absent to 168 turn in completed make-up work. When possible, assignments may be provided 169 prior to a lawful absence if requested by the parent/guardian at least two weeks in 170 advance of the absence and approved by the principal or designee. Submission of 171 the makeup work provided prior to a lawful absence is due upon the return to 172 school unless extenuating circumstances have been documented by the 173 parent/guardian. 174 c. The make-up procedure for long-term (six days or more) absence will require the 175 following: 176 i. The student/parent/guardian must request the missed assignments. 177 ii. Teachers are responsible for providing make-up work upon request for students 178 who are lawfully or unlawfully absent. 179 iii. A reasonable timeline for the completion of the work will be established. 180 181 182
