Teachers are responsible for providing make-up work upon request for students 508 who are lawfully or unlawfully absent. 509 iii. Students will be given the number of days equal to the number of days absent to 510 turn in completed make-up work. When possible, assignments may be provided 511 prior to a lawful absence if requested by the parent/guardian at least two weeks in 512 advance of the absence and approved by the principal or designee. Submission of 513 the makeup work provided prior to a lawful absence is due upon the return to 514 school unless extenuating circumstances have been documented by the 515 parent/guardian. 516 b. The make-up procedure for long-term (six days or more) absence will require the 517 following: 518 i. The student/parent/guardian must request the missed assignments. 519 ii. Teachers are responsible for providing make-up work upon request for students 520 who are lawfully or unlawfully absent. 521 iii. A reasonable timeline for the completion of the work will be established. 522 11. Summer School Grading 523 a. Each marking period(2) will count one-half (½, 50%) of the final grade. 524 b. The transcript will reflect both the original course grade and the summer school 525 course grade. However, the summer school course grade will not appear on the 526 transcript until the end of the following academic year. 527 c. When determining eligibility for 1st marking term extracurricular activities, the 528 summer school final course grade will replace the 4th marking term grade for that 529 course from the previous school year. The grade point average from the 4th marking 530 term of the previous school year will then be recalculated to determine eligibility for 531 1st term extracurricular activities. 532 12. Withdrawal from a Course 533 Students who withdraw from a semester course after the 1st progress reports are issued, 534 will receive a failing grade for that semester course. Exceptions must receive the approval 535 from the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. 536 13. Honor Roll 537 Middle school students will be considered on the honor roll provided they have a 3.0 GPA 538 for the given marking period. 539 14. High School Credit for Courses Taken in Middle School 540 Options and procedures for high school credit bearing courses taken in middle school are 541 outlined in the annual Middle School Catalog of Courses. 542 B. Promotion/Retention 543 1. Students who pass at least three major subjects automatically advance to the next grade. 544 These major subjects include ELA/English, math, science and social studies. 545
