The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) End of Course Assessment is 586 required in Government and Biology. The End of Course Assessment (EOC) factors in as 587 20% of a student’s final grade. This applies only to first time 9th grade students during the 588 2023-2024 school year and subsequent classes. 589 4. Teachers' grade books should include at least two grades per six days of instruction for 590 each student. The grades for the entire marking period should reflect progress for both 591 formative and summative assignments and the number of grades per category must be 592 appropriate for the overall number of assignments for that term. Content supervisors may 593 require more specific grading criteria within these procedures for respective content area 594 teachers. All teachers must include explanations of these grading systems in their grade 595 books. Columns in the grade books should indicate the task assignment being evaluated 596 and the date of collection for the assignment. Teacher gradebooks must be maintained 597 electronically and updated with current grades at least once every two weeks. 598 5. Letter Grades 599 The following letter grades will be used in grades 9-12 for all subject areas. 600 a. A - Excellent mastery of knowledge and skills; the quality of work is superior. 601 b. B - Good mastery of knowledge and skills; the quality of work is above average. 602 c. C - Satisfactory mastery of knowledge and skills; the quality of work is average. 603 d. D - Unsatisfactory mastery of knowledge and skills; the quality of work is the 604 minimal level of acceptable performance. 605 e. E - Failure in mastery of knowledge and skills; the student does little or none of the 606 work required, and the quality is unacceptable. 607 f. Ratings for Alternate Academic Curriculum. 612 The following ratings will be used for participants in an alternate academic curriculum 613 along with the student's earned percentage where applicable for the End of Marking Period 614 Report Card: 615 a. O - Outstanding - Student consistently demonstrates and applies understanding 616 independently in a variety of settings. 617 b. S - Satisfactory - Student demonstrates some understanding and applies 618 understanding in a variety of settings with support. 619
